Today, like Mary, I say yes
The Sacred Heart of Jesus appeals to us, through the ordinance of the 36th General Chapter, to provide a meaningful presence among young people. In order to respond to this appeal, we celebrated the first National Youth Day of the Sacred Heart from September 27 to 29, at Sacred Heart College Seminary in Marinilla.
Following the World Youth Day, which took place in Panama, we wanted to deepen our identity as young people of the Sacred Heart, under the motto: “Today, like Mary, I say yes”. Participating were 220 boys and girls, between 14 and 17 years old, from all the schools of Colombia, as well as 40 teacher-counselors of Vocation Youth Ministry and the organization of young Brothers (Julián, James, Alexander, Walter, Javier, Mario and Edson). We also had the support of the postulants (Sébastian, Santiago and Daniel), under the coordination of Brother Alfredo and the advisory team of the Faro Group.
For the celebrations and testimonies, we were able to count on the presence of several guests from the Archdiocese of Medellin; several former students who graduated from the schools in Marinilla and Barranquilla and who work actively in parish ministry; and Sister Vanessa of the Carmelite community. We also had the support of the intercessory prayer of the Sisters of God’s Plan, who live nearby.
The investment, open-mindedness, and availability of all the participants should be emphasized. These attitudes have multiplied in every school environment since that day, resulting in a missionary commitment in the social pastoral care that is developed in the schools.
With such encouraging results from this National Youth Day, we are already working on the organization of the second gathering in Barranquilla in 2021, which would be part of the bicentennial celebrations that the Province plans to organize. We thank the Sacred Heart for his love, clearly expressed through the vocational concerns that are already beginning to arise among this Day’s participants.
