When we talk about social justice, it seems pretty evident that it has its roots int the Word of God. About the ecology, we know the story of the Garden of Eden which the man must take car of it (Gn2, 15). But it seems to me that we can also find support in the Word of Saint Paul to the Romans, 8, 22: ‘We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time’’.
In the same way that mammals born after a conception and a slow natural evolution, the humanity evolves free toward better life conditions and an increased longevity. But this progression brings suffering. The man, stimulated by the modern technic and electronic progress, but also by the ambition of wealth, is polluting the creation and breaking the balance of naturals ecosystems of the common house where he must live. This brings every year the disappearance of several vegetable and animal species. Consequences: many people are struggling to survive; the influents enrich themselves at the expense of the poor; it’s a suffering. This reality is directly associated with ecology and social justice.
The Word prevents:”Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness” (Pr 23,4-5).
